Things to do and places to see in Poland

Encrusted in central Europe, Poland historical cities and monuments attract millions of tourists each year. Other than that, natural settings, agrotourism, trekking and climbing are also popular.

  • The historic centre of Warsaw: The historic centre of Warsaw constitutes an exception on UNESCO's World Cultural Heritage List. It's the only urban complex almost entirely reconstructed after the WWII total destruction. The reconstruction of the city took several years, and the rebuilding of the iconic Royal Castle started only in 1971.
  • Old city of Zamosc: Founded in the 16th century and modelled on Italian theories of the 'ideal city', Zamosc is a perfect example of a Renaissance town, which retained its original layout and fortifications and a large number of buildings that combine Italian and central European architectural traditions.
  • The medieval Cracow: This historic city with old walls and numerous museums used to be a royal residence and Poland's cultural centre. The Old Town of Kraków has preserved its medieval urban layout, which used to be surrounded by defensive walls that were later replaced by the Planty, a uniquely and curiously shaped park.

Do I need a Visa to visit Poland?

A visa is not required for either tourist or business stays. You'll need to comply with all government travel requirements. Please view specific documentation requirements on the U.S. Department of State's website. U.S. citizens don't require transit visas to connect through Ireland into Europe. For citizens of all other countries travelling from the U.S., requirements vary.
