Things to do and places to see in the Netherlands

Known for its canals, tulips, windmills and cycling, the Netherlands is also home to famous names such as Van Gogh and Anne Frank and it is a very sought tourist destination in Europe. Holland is also home to many great restaurants, excellent chefs and regional produce of high, internationally recognised quality.

  • Canal Cruise in Amsterdam: Amsterdam has around 165 canals. Back in the day, these were fully exploited for the transport of cargo and getting around the city. It was, and to a certain point still is, popular to live on barges alongside the canals. This unique web of canals provides an opportunity for a great ride on a boat. You can sit back and admire the most iconic landmarks in the city. It takes around 45 minutes and goes around a circle stopping by the most important buildings.
  • Windmills at Zaanse Schans: A few stops from Amsterdam you'll find the Zaanse Schans open-air Windmills museum. This spectacular place is home to a few remaining windmills in fully working condition up to this day. The majority of the windmills are open to the public between April and October. We recommend a visit as it is a fascinating experience to be inside these breathtaking windmills.

Do I need a Visa to visit the Netherlands?

A visa is not required for either tourist or business stays. You'll need to comply with all government travel requirements. Please view specific documentation requirements on the U.S. Department of State's website. U.S. citizens don't require transit visas to connect through Ireland into Europe. For citizens of all other countries travelling from the U.S., requirements vary.
