How to get from the airport to the city centre?

Visitors can reach or leave Hamburg Airport quickly and easily by public transport. The easiest ways to get to the city centre are by bus, train or taxi.

Taxi: Taxis are available at the taxi stands in front of Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. A journey to the city centre takes around 20 minutes and will cost from €30.

Bus: Buses are the cheapest way to go from Hamburg Airport to the city centre. Journey takes around 30 minutes and costs around 3€.

Trains S-Bahn line S1 takes you from Hamburg Central Station to the airport and back every 10 minutes with a journey time of only 25 minutes each way. You can reach the station directly from Terminals 1 and 2 (Arrivals) via elevators, escalators, and fixed stairs. Journey takes around 20 minutes and costs around 3€.

Do I need a Visa to visit Hamburg?

As a member state of the Schengen Area, Germany, allows the nationals of 62 countries part of the visa-waiver program to enter its territory without the need to obtain a visa first. However, rules change if they are there for long-term visits. Also, nationals from other countries need to apply for a visa previously for their trip.
