Things to do and places to see in Glasgow

Glasgow is Scotland's largest city and is renowned for the culture, style and friendliness of its people. Glasgow offers a blend of internationally-acclaimed museums and galleries, stunning architecture, vibrant nightlife, fantastic shopping and a diverse array of restaurants and bars.

  • Glasgow Cathedral: This magnificent example of Scottish Gothic architecture was built between the 13th & 15th Centuries and is widely regarded as the high point of cathedral building in Europe. But no description of the cathedral would be complete without mentioning its inextricable link with the city's patron saint & founder, St. Mungo, whose church was built on this site and who was buried here in 612 AD.
  • Mackintosh House: Walking around the meticulously reconstructed Mackintosh House offers an intimate glimpse into the private living space of Glasgow's most famous son, Charles Rennie Mackintosh and his artist wife, Margaret Macdonald Mackintosh. Substantial alterations were made in 1906, as Mackintosh re-modelled the proportions and natural lighting of the Victorian end-of-terrace house with the principal interiors decorated in his distinctive style.
  • The Necropolis: A favourite attraction for visitors from the UK and overseas, The Necropolis has been described as a 'unique representation of Victorian Glasgow, built when Glasgow was the second city of the empire'. It remains one of the most significant cemeteries in Europe, exceptional in its contribution to the townscape, its symbolic relationship to Glasgow Cathedral and to the medieval heart of the City.
