Visit Portugal

Known for its great maritime explorers and Moorish architecture, Portugal's Mediterranean climate and varied landscapes draw visitors from around the world. Book your flight to Portugal with Aer Lingus and experience Portugal's deep heritage and culture for yourself.

Lisbon Historic Sites: Step back in time to the Age of Discovery at the Monastery of the Hieronymites and the Tower of Belém. Learn about Portugal's famed sailors, while you look for armillary spheres and twisted ropes carved onto the ceiling. For breath-taking views of the Tagus River, climb the battlements of the 11th century Moorish Castelo Sao Jorge. See artefacts from the castle site or watch a medieval re-enactment. Then, walk around the surrounding historic neighbourhood of Alfama, and get lost in its labyrinthine streets. Don't miss the Lisbon Cathedral while there, as it is the oldest church in the city.

Faro Beaches: Faro's main beach, Praia da Ilha de Faro, is a long stretch of sand, west of the city. The area is well developed and features bars, restaurants and hotels. The beach is known for its nightlife and gets very lively in the summer. For a more secluded experience, visit the Praia da Barreta Mar, also known as the Ilha Deserta. While there, look out for black-tailed godwits, ringed plovers, and little snipes, as the Ria Formosa National Park where the island is located, is a bird sanctuary.

Do I need a Visa to visit Portugal?

If you're a U.S. citizen, a valid passport is required for travel to all E.U. member states. A visa, however, is not required for either tourist or business stays. You'll also need to comply with all government travel requirements. Please view specific documentation requirements on the U.S. Department of State's website. U.S. citizens don't require transit visas to connect through Ireland into Europe. For citizens of all other countries travelling from the U.S requirements vary.
