Central to the famous wine-growing region, Marseille boasts a rich heritage and houses numerous historic and modern monuments.

  • Notre Dame de la Garde
    Emblem of the city of Marseille, the Notre Dame de la Garde can be seen from every corner of the city and faces the Mediterranean sea from above. The basilica, built based on a Roman-Byzantine style, had its first stone laid on 1853, but the construction was finished only in June 1864.
  • Vieux Port
    One of the symbols of the city, the Old Port is where the ancient Greek colony Massalia was founded, that later became the Roman Massilia. The medieval Marsiho was also built around it, with its entrance guarded by two forts, Saint-Nicolas and Saint-Jean.
  • Architecture in Marseille
    When you’re done with Notre Dame de la Garde, discover the rest of the city’s striking architecture, such as the Cathedrale de la Major, the charming and scenic neighbourhood of Le Panier, marvel at Palais Longchamp, and step back in time at Château d'If.

How to get from the airport to the city centre?

Marseille Airport is distant circa 25km/16 miles from the city centre. The journey takes around 30 minutes and It can be done by train, bus or taxi.

Taxi: The Marseille Provence Airport taxi rank is located in front of Terminal 1 and is available 24/7. The journey to the city centre takes around 25 minutes and will cost from €50 during the day and €60 at night.

Bus: The best option is to take the airport shuttle bus. Tickets cost €8.30 one-way and travel time is around 30 minutes to the Saint Charles railway station in Marseille.

Trains: Although there is no direct train from the airport to the city centre, you can take a shuttle to the Vitrolles Aeroport train station, and from there reach Saint Charles railway station in Marseille. Tickets cost €5.10 and the train takes 23 minutes to the city centre.

Do I need a Visa to visit Marseille?

A visa is not required for either tourist or business stays, but other visas to France depend on your nationality and length/purpose of your stay. Best thing to do is check the official visa website for France.
