Where Sean’s Running Next: Winter Miles & 2026 Goals
When Aer Lingus Cabin Crew member Sean Hill isn’t up in the skies, he’s most likely lacing up his runners. A dedicated marathoner, content creator, and all-round fitness enthusiast, Sean has a unique way of blending his work with his passion: he clocks up miles across Aer Lingus destinations worldwide.
As winter settles in, many of us shy away from training, but not Sean. With marathons on the horizon and a zest for exploring new routes, he proves that running isn’t just exercise – it’s a way to connect with cities, people, and even yourself.
We caught up with Sean to chat about his winter routine, 2025–26 goals, and why running is the best excuse to book your next city break.

Travel and running go hand-in-hand for Sean: new destinations mean new energy on every run.
Winter Training: Layered Up and Miles Ahead
“When winter hits that’s when I know I’m deep into marathon training – so higher miles and less speed, along with a lot more clothes (which I hate!). I’m the type of runner who loves to wear as little as possible” Sean jokes.
While some runners head indoors, Sean keeps taking his runs global. “My favourite is LA – simply because there’s nothing winter about it! But for an actual good winter run, I really enjoy Toronto.”
The darker months can be a challenge, but Sean leans on the post-run reward: “It’s definitely a lot harder to get out in the dark and cold, but there’s something much more fulfilling about finishing a session in the cold. I think I just know the effect it has on my mental health – and that will always push me out on a run.”
His winter toolkit includes practical staples: “I love wearing a snood, especially one that can nearly become a balaclava – it keeps all the heat in. You can actually sweat more in the winter as we wrap up, so I make sure to replenish sodium and potassium with electrolytes. And of course, ice baths and saunas hit different in winter!”
Saunas and ice baths aren’t just for athletes – they’re also part of everyday culture in Norway. With our new Aer Lingus route to Tromsø, you can explore some of the best sauna and fjord experiences in the world while also clocking winter miles in breathtaking Arctic scenery.

Big Goals on the Horizon
Looking ahead, Sean has a busy race calendar: “For the rest of 2025, my focus is on marathons. I’ll be completing the Cape Town, Dublin, and Barbados marathons – and I’m aiming for a PB in Cape Town! Then for 2026, I’d love to focus on shorter distances like 1500m and 5000m to see how much I can push myself.”
The Barbados marathon has extra meaning for Aer Lingus travellers: it’s one of our direct routes from Manchester to Barbados, operating October to April – perfect timing for winter sun and a race abroad.

When it comes to destinations, Sean has his eye on Aer Lingus favourites: “It’s been a while since I’ve done a run in LA, so that’s on the list. Cancún is a new one I’m keen to try, plus Miami and maybe Las Vegas if I’m lucky enough to get any!”
And how does he balance cabin crew life with training? “I say a prayer to the roster gods – which never seem to be on my side! But it always works out. I just book a race I really want to do, and when the time comes, I know I’ll be able to change things around if needed.”
Running the World, One Route at a Time
Sean credits Aer Lingus with giving him the chance to run in places he never dreamed of. “The joy from running in new destinations makes it so enjoyable. Running in the same place can definitely get very repetitive, so for me to be running in a different spot nearly every day is what keeps me enjoying not only running but my job to the max.”

One run that stands out took place in Minneapolis: “I was coming back from an injury and nervously set out for a long run. I crossed a beautiful bridge on a summer’s morning, followed an open train track with abandoned trains for about 14km, and felt completely free. The sun was shining, no one was around, and I was pain-free. It was unforgettable.”
Even better? You can follow in Sean’s footsteps: Aer Lingus flies direct from Dublin to Minneapolis, opening the gateway to lakeside trails and big-city routes.
For those inspired to run abroad, Sean has a few scenic suggestions:
- New York: East River Track for interval training
- Denver: Sloane Lake (4k loop)
- London: Hammersmith Bridge loop along the Thames (10k)
- Chicago: The Lakefront Trail
- Minneapolis: Cedar Lake Trail and surrounding lakes
Why Running Matters
Even after countless marathons, Sean’s passion hasn’t dimmed. “Seeing what it’s done for my mental health- and for some of the people closest to me- keeps me going. I will always attempt to get people into running. It’s for everyone, no matter how fast or how long you’re able to run.”
His advice for winter warriors? “Set yourself a target – if there’s a run local to you, book it and hold yourself accountable. Follow people online who share positivity about running. And remember: the treadmill is always an option if it’s too cold.”

For travellers, Sean has a simple tip: “Kill two birds with one stone – get your running shoes on and do an easy run around the place you’re visiting. You get to see so much at a quicker pace.”
The Fun Side of Running
If Sean could choose one Aer Lingus destination to escape winter? “I would 100% love to try Cancún—I’m definitely a sun person, and it would be such a fun way to explore somewhere completely new.”
As for post-run refuels, his answer is clear-cut: “The best meal after a run, short or long, is a Nando’s—and there is no other acceptable answer, I’m afraid!”
Ready to Run the World?
Sean’s story is proof that running doesn’t have to stop when the seasons change. With the right mindset – and maybe a snood or two – it can be the perfect way to stay fit, feel good, and explore the world.
So, whether you’re chasing a marathon PB, planning a city break, or simply looking for a new way to see the sights, take Sean’s advice: lace up, head out, and discover your next Aer Lingus destination- one stride at a time.
