But in winter the city takes on a magical aspect as the temperature drops and the Christmas markets open.<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Here are my top picks of the markets Prague has to offer.<\/h4>\n

Prague\u2019s Christmas markets are some of the best in Europe \u2013 just a short stroll through them will show you why. You\u2019ll find wooden toys, arts and crafts, handmade soaps and all kinds of unique Christmas gifts. To keep warm as you walk around the markets get yourself a mug of Sva\u0159\u00e1k (mulled wine) and get into the festive spirit.<\/p>\n

1. Old Town Square Market<\/h4>\n

The largest market takes place in the Old Town Square where the Prague Christmas Tree and nativity scene are also located. The huge, real tree is the centrepiece of the market and stands in front of the Church of Tyn so you can get some great photos. The tree is beautifully decorated with lights and ornaments and really comes to life at night when it’s lit up in all its glory. You won\u2019t go hungry either with all the different food and drink stalls.<\/p>\n

2. Wenceslas Square Market<\/h4>\n

Just a short walk away on Wenceslas Square, you\u2019ll find another Christmas market. The main part of this market is located in the larger space at the lower end of the square opposite the National Museum. The Wenceslas Square markets also have a Christmas tree, although not as big as the one in Old Town Square. The tree also has light animation shows, running from 5pm until 9pm every night.<\/p>\n

3. Havel\u2019s Christmas Market<\/h4>\n

Located between the Old Town Square and the Wenceslas Square you\u2019ll find a truly unique Christmas market. The market itself there all year round and dates back to 1232. It undergoes a Christmassy transformation in December. There won\u2019t be the same food choices at this market but you\u2019ll definitely pick up some gorgeous Christmas decorations and other souvenirs.<\/p>\n

4. Prague Castle Christmas Market<\/h4>\n

This Prague market has around 70 stalls selling traditional Czech food and drinks all set against the backdrop of the St. Vitus Cathedral. You\u2019ll also get amazing views of the city and a huge Christmas tree in the middle. The atmosphere is bound to put you in the festive mood. Opening hours do vary so be sure to check before you go.<\/p>\n

5. Kampa Island Christmas market<\/h4>\n

Cross over the Charles Bridge and you\u2019ll be in one of the most picturesque areas of the city. This market is small but definitely worth the visit. Treat yourself to a hot chocolate while you have a browse of the homemade gifts and souvenirs, or just enjoy the beautiful winter view of the Vltava River in the background, especially if it\u2019s been snowing.<\/p>\n\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n
