Fado:<\/strong> Get a taste for the authentic Portuguese culture with a visit to a see a traditional Fado music performance. There are lots of places you can do this, but <\/span>A Baiuca <\/span><\/a>is a women-owned space that\u2019s intimate and feels a little more authentic than some of the competitors.<\/span><\/p>\n

Pastel de Nata:<\/strong> It wouldn\u2019t be a <\/span>trip to Lisbon<\/span><\/a> without a Pastel de Nata. The original is from <\/span>Past\u00e9is de Bel\u00e9m<\/span><\/a>, but you\u2019ll find worthy competitors in every nook and cranny in the city. We once even spotted pastels being sold out of a side-street window to Saturday night revellers.<\/span><\/p>\n

Bel\u00e9m:<\/strong> This Lisbon neighbourhood was key to Portugal\u2019s 15th and 16th century Age of Exploration and has plenty of monuments celebrating that time. Wander around to see the <\/span>Torre de Bel\u00e9m<\/span><\/a>, constructed in 1520, and the impressive 52-metre-high <\/span>Padr\u00e3o dos Descobrimentos.<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n

LX Factory:<\/strong> Originally a 1846 textile factory, <\/span>LX<\/span><\/a> now is a vibrant, creative hub with lots of cool independent boutiques. But don\u2019t leave without trying the legendary <\/span>Landeau Chocolate Cake<\/span><\/a>. A decade after first trying it, we\u2019re still thinking about it. And so is the <\/span>New York Times<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\t\t\t

It\u2019s roadtrip time! Stop offs worth making<\/span><\/h2>\n

It\u2019s worth taking your time on your journey from Lisbon to Faro. Sure if traffic goes your way, you could do it in a little under three hours. But where\u2019s the fun in that? Make the drive a focal point of your holiday and enjoy plenty of stop offs on the way. You\u2019ll be glad you did.<\/span><\/p>\n

Monsaraz<\/span><\/h3>\n

Take an inland detour on your Portuguese road trip to visit the pretty whitewashed town of <\/span>Monsaraz<\/span><\/a>. It\u2019s right beside the Spanish border and is one of the oldest settlements in southern Portugal, with human settlement going back thousands of years. <\/span>Its hilltop position also gives it stunning views over the Alqueva Dam and the surrounding countryside.<\/span><\/p>\n
