As The Aer Lingus Hub celebrates its first anniversary, we\u2019re reflecting on a year filled with stories that have inspired Irish travellers to explore, dream, and discover more of the world. From city breaks to bucket-list adventures, travel has a unique way of broadening our horizons \u2014 and few capture that spirit better than Irish content creator\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Stephanie Barry Woods<\/span><\/span>, better known as\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Stephmylife<\/span><\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

Originally from Cork, Steph\u2019s story is one of courage, curiosity, and carving a new path. In 2015, she was living what many would consider the dream: a great job, a circle of close friends, and a life in London with her fianc\u00e9. But something inside her stirred\u00a0<\/span>–<\/span>\u00a0a sense that there was more to explore beyond the predictable routine.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cLiving in London was one of the best times of my life,\u201d Steph reflects. \u201cI had money for the first time, I met my husband, and made lifelong friends. But as much as I loved London, it was never a \u2018forever\u2019 place for me. It gave me the confidence to start aiming for more.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

That \u201cmore\u201d began with a trip to Japan and Thailand \u2014 one that would completely change her outlook. Inspired by the freedom she felt abroad and the people she followed online who were travelling full-time, Steph decided to press pause on the corporate world and start a new chapter of adventure.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u201cOn one of our trips to Thailand, it just hit me that I wasn\u2019t going back to a life I really wanted anymore,\u201d she says. \u201cThe joy I felt when we would travel, how free I felt, and how much possibility I saw in the world \u2014 that changed everything.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n

A Life Shaped by Travel<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n

Fast forward almost a decade, and Steph\u2019s travels have taken her across continents \u2014 from the bustling streets of Tokyo to the beaches of Thailand, and now to Abruzzo, Italy,<\/a> where she and her husband spend their summers when not running tours or travelling across Asia.<\/p>\n

\u201cItaly has such a special place in our hearts,\u201d she smiles. \u201cIt\u2019s\u00a0where\u00a0we\u2019ve\u00a0built our first home together, and somewhere we love going back to. Abruzzo\u00a0<\/a>isn\u2019t\u00a0very touristy \u2014 it has beaches in summer, skiing in winter, and\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0beautiful all year round.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Over the years, Steph\u2019s approach to travel has evolved. Once driven to tick off countries and landmarks, she now embraces a slower, more mindful style of exploring.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cNow we travel slower, more intentionally. I try to learn the language, understand the history, and really connect with the local culture.\u00a0I\u2019m\u00a0more aware of my privileges as a traveller, so I always try to give rather than take \u2014 tip generously, support small businesses, and be respectful of the places we visit.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Her favourite destinations?\u00a0<\/span>Thailand\u00a0and\u00a0Japan\u00a0remain at the top of her list \u2014 both deeply personal and transformative.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThailand was the first place I went in Southeast Asia, and\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0where\u00a0I\u2019ve\u00a0grown the most as a person. Japan constantly draws me back;\u00a0I\u2019d\u00a0love to live in Tokyo one day \u2014\u00a0we\u2019re\u00a0actually working\u00a0on that dream\u00a0at the moment!\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n

From Inspiration to Influence<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n

Steph\u2019s digital journey began with a mission to make travel more accessible. Her platform,\u00a0<\/span>StephMyLife<\/span><\/b><\/a>, was born from a desire to show others that adventure\u00a0doesn\u2019t\u00a0have to be intimidating or expensive.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cTravel seems so much scarier before you do it,\u201d she explains. \u201cBut when that plane touches down and\u00a0you\u2019re\u00a0looking out at the world from your hotel window, you realise how worth it\u00a0it\u00a0is. I wanted to show people that travel\u00a0isn\u2019t\u00a0out of reach \u2014\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0totally doable, and\u00a0you\u2019ll\u00a0grow so much from it.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Behind the polished posts and dreamy destinations lies a lot of unseen work.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cPeople don\u2019t see how many days we spend inside working,\u201d Steph laughs. \u201cThere\u2019s a lot of\u00a0admin\u00a0behind the scenes \u2014 and our screen time is way too high!\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

But for her, it\u2019s all about balance.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u201cWhen I go somewhere special, I get the content shot right away so I can put the camera down and just enjoy the experience.\u00a0That\u2019s\u00a0the best way to share and still be present.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t

Tips for the Modern Traveller<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n

\u201cFor short trips, planning really does make a difference,\u201d she suggests. \u201cMake lists of the must-sees and restaurants you want to\u00a0visit and\u00a0save everything in a shared Google Map \u2014 it gives your trip structure without taking away spontaneity.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

When it comes to planning,\u00a0she\u2019s\u00a0a healthy mix of organised and adventurous.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI plan a lot, but I rarely book anything in advance. That keeps things flexible and fun!\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

And her number one tip?<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u201cBe loyal! You can save more by sticking with a few brands and building up points. Collecting Avios with Aer Lingus,<\/a> for example, has saved me so much over the years.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n

When asked about her favourite Aer Lingus destination, Steph\u00a0doesn\u2019t\u00a0hesitate.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u201cParis<\/a>! I love the food, the museums, and the romance of the city. We spent a few months living there, and I completely fell in love.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Her idea of the perfect Aer Lingus<\/a> weekend getaway?<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u201cI\u2019d send people on a romantic trip to Paris, inspired by Hemingway\u2019s\u00a0<\/span>A Moveable Feast<\/span><\/i>,\u201d she says. \u201cStay in the Latin Quarter, have a picnic by the Seine, browse the bookshops, and finish with dinner at La Refuge Des Fondus \u2014 it\u2019s quirky, fun, and perfectly Parisian.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
