Why visit Denver?

Unlike New York or Los Angeles, Denver isn’t on the regular tourist track. But when you arrive, you’re going to be blown away by just how unique and gorgeous Denver really is.

The city is bursting with creative energy, from bijou boutiques to innovative museums. And with the jaw-dropping Rocky Mountains within easy reach, there’s no shortage of stunning scenery.

Must-visit places in Denver

THE HEART OF THE CITY

Union Station is one of the first places you’re likely to see in the Mile High City. It’s Denver’s main transport hub, but it’s also part of the fabric of the city. With comfy chairs, free wi-fi and even shuffleboard, it’s a much-loved spot for a catch up or to hang out for a few hours.

It’s also got a wonderful smattering of eateries. Those with a sweet tooth should take note of the small-batch Milkbox Ice Creamery and the locally-roasted Pigtrain Coffee.

SIGNATURE DISHES

Speaking of food, there are more than a few local delicacies you need to seek out when you visit. Extra juicy, extra sweet Palisade peaches are a truly delicious summertime treat that you can pick up in farmer’s markets and grocery stores.

For something more hearty, try a Colorado-style pizza. It’s got a thick braided crust drizzled in honey and piled high with toppings. Another must-eat is Colorado green chile, made with fiery Pueblo chillies.

DEEP DIVE INTO DENVER’S ART SCENE

Denver has a strong line-up of cultural institutions. The Denver Art Museum holds one of the largest Native American art collections in the U.S., along with an impressive Western American collection and lots of child-friendly interactive exhibits.

With nine galleries, outdoor terraces and a hands-on art creation studio, stepping into the Clyfford Still Museum is an immersive experience. It celebrates the prolific and accomplished abstract expressionist artist with a vast collection of his works.

Have kids in tow? Then the number one hit of the trip is sure to be the Children’s Museum Denver Marsico Campus. Everything here is designed with little ones in mind, from a baby artists session to the epic outdoors adventure forest for older kids.

DESTINATION SHOPPING

If you’re into shopping, downtown Denver delivers in spades. Larimer Square is a microcosm of shopping delights. You can find everything from sustainable outdoors wear to pooch accessories.

Meanwhile, bookworms should head straight to Tattered Cover. Not only are there shelves-upon-shelves of books to discover, there are also hundreds of literary events every year and regular children’s storytimes.

For some quirky keepsakes, there’s nowhere better than 5 Green Boxes. It’s got everything from one-of-a-kind jewellery to colourful gift wrap.

And if you’re in the market for some luxury, Bloom by Anuschka is where you need to go. This lifestyle store has a treasure trove of carefully curated items. Embroidered Uzbekistani garments, diamond-encrusted alligator rings and original artworks are just some of the things you might find inside.

THE GREAT OUTDOORS

With so much stunning wilderness, Colorado really celebrates the outdoors. And in downtown Denver, there’s plenty to get you out and about. Confluence Park is the ideal spot for biking, hiking, skating and watersports. Meanwhile, the beautiful Denver Botanic Gardens is the ideal spot for a stroll while you admire the impressive plant collections.

Even concert goers can be surrounded by nature in the Red Rocks Amphitheatre. Thanks to the 400ft-high rock formations surrounding the stage, the acoustics are brilliant. It opened in the 1940s and has played host to the most iconic performers of all time, including The Beatles, Diana Ross, U2, Neil Young and so much more. As well as epic gigs, you can also catch a film or a yoga session on the rocks in the summer.

ROCKY MOUNTAIN ADVENTURE

One of the most memorable things you can do on your Colorado getaway is explore the Rocky Mountains. Hire a car and head off for a few days on a breathtaking road trip. Or hop on a bus from Union Station for a day-trip with a difference.

Wild meadows, glistening alpine lakes and year-round snow-capped peaks are waiting to be discovered. There are 300 miles of hiking trails, which give you so many different routes to explore the mountains. As well as that, you can enjoy wildlife watching, rock climbing, stargazing and so much more.

You can also camp in the National Park or opt for the creature comforts of a nearby hotel.
