For more information about flying to Spain from Ireland right now, here’s a handy checklist of the travel documents you need.

SLEEP:

PARADOR DE MÁLAGA GIBRALFARO

The four-star Parador de Málaga Gibralfaro Hotel is the perfect place to stay on a Malaga city break. Perched on Mount Gibralfaro opposite the Alcazaba (one of Malaga’s most iconic landmarks), this traditional hotel overlooks the city and the blue waters of the Mediterranean.

Enjoy fresh seafood and other tasty Andalusian dishes from the rustic restaurant, alongside amazing views of Malaga harbour below. Don’t miss the rooftop swimming pool.

HIT THE BEACH:

SOAK IN THE SUN AT PLAYA DE LA MALAGUETA

Malaga offers the best of a city and beach holiday. Start your trip like Vogue with a visit to the gorgeous Playa de la Malagueta.

The 1,200m beach is a ten minute drive from the city centre in the La Malagueta neighbourhood. The palm tree-lined seafront promenade and great choice of beach snacks will get you in the holiday mood in no time.

GET ACTIVE:

CAMINITO DEL RAY

The Caminito del Rey (the King’s Pathway) in El Chorro near Ardales is a must-see for adventure-seekers visiting Malaga. Nestled in the magnificent Paraje Natural Desfiladero de los Gaitanes (Natural Park Gorge of the Gaitanes), this amazing boardwalk hangs 100m above the river Guadalhorce.

The path snakes around amazing cliffs and breathtaking views await around every corner. Walks to and from the access points make the total hiking distance 7.7km – the whole route can take up to four hours to complete.

Plan your visit and find out more about the Caminito here.

TIME FOR ICE CREAM:

VISIT CASA MIRA ON CALLE LARIOS

Looking for the best ice cream in Malaga? Casa Mira on Calle Larios is the place to go. This elegant marble-floored ice cream parlour has been serving up delicious homemade treats since 1842. Five generations later and it’s still the most popular ice cream spot for locals and visitors alike.

Don’t miss: The turron (nougat) flavoured ice cream or the black and white (iced coffee served with ice cream).

CALLE LARIOS:

SHOPPING AND THE BEST FOOD MARKET

Fancy some retail therapy? You’re already in the right place. The pedestrianised Calle Larios is home to Malaga’s best shopping.

A short five-minute walk will also take you to the city’s best food market at Mercado Central de Atarazanas. Once a Moorish ship repair yard (look out for the original horseshoe archway), this is the perfect place to pick up picnic treats for the beach or find seafood snacks at their freshest. Open Monday – Saturday from 9am to 3pm.

TEATRO ROMANO:

ENJOY THE CULTURAL HEART OF MALAGA

Take a step back in time to visit Malaga’s oldest monument, the beautiful Teatro Romano Malaga, Malaga’s Roman theatre. Sitting at the foot of the Alcazaba fortress, it is one of the only remaining symbols of the Roman era in Andalucia.

When you visit this sprawling theatre, you won’t believe it was buried under dirt and rubble for almost five centuries. The theatre was only rediscovered in 1951. If you’re keen to learn more about Malaga’s Roman past, a trip to the visitor centre is a must.

CURRENT COVID RESTRICTIONS IN MALAGA

Currently there are no curfews in Malaga. Restaurants close at 1am, nightlife at 2am and beaches and pools close at 11pm. Just like in Ireland right now, face masks are mandatory in indoor or closed spaces, including public transport. Keep up-to-date with all the latest local guidelines here. Andalucia is the destination region for Malaga.
