SLEEP: THE ARLO HOTEL, SOHO The four-star boutique Arlo SoHo Hotel on Hudson Street in the West Village is a great base for a New York getaway. The rooms are compact, but the beds are extremely comfortable, the staff are welcoming and the communal spaces are very, very cool. A visit to the hotel’s rooftop bar with beautiful views of the Hudson River and the Freedom Tower skyline is a great way to start your trip. If you’re awake early during your stay, head across the street to Maman café for excellent coffee and a delicious selection of pastries. The views from Summit One Vanderbilt A trip in the all-glass elevator at the very top will stay with you long after you leave the city. But perhaps the real highlight of Summit One Vanderbilt is the art installation called Air created by Kenzo Digital. You’ll be immersed in the New York skyline as you enter the huge mirrored room. Tickets start at $39. Arrive early in the morning to avoid the queues or enjoy a sunset visit to see the Big Apple in a new light. RELAX: LITTLE ISLAND PARK Why not spend an afternoon in Little Island, New York’s newest public park? Perched right on the Hudson River, it’s the perfect place to relax and catch your breath in the city that never sleeps. Visit for nature, colourful art installations and dazzling city and river views. Head to the top of the winding paths for more amazing views or sit back and relax in the sprawling amphitheatre and watch the world go by. After some downtime in the park, stop by the nearby Chelsea Market for food or enjoy a stroll through the Meatpacking District and take some shopping time. EAT: KATZ’S DELI Katz’s Delicatessan is an iconic eatery on the Lower East Side. Open since 1911 the no-frills institution is famous for its sandwiches and other deli classics, like matzo ball soup and much more. Enjoy a proper New York dining experience at Katz’s Deli It’s also where Meg Ryan and Billy Crystal shot their famous ‘I’ll have what she’s having’ diner scene from When Harry Met Sally.
