The Barri Gòtic is packed with tiny tapas bars and vibrant restaurants dishing up Catalan fare like esqueixada (salted cod salad) and pan tomaquet (tomato bread). Look up the famous Los Caracoles ('the snails') specializing in exactly that. Head to Barceloneta for no-frills fish restaurants and Gràcia for a world of cuisines.

The benign Mediterranean climate ensures Barcelona is rarely uncomfortably cold, even in winter. Winters are mild, with a mean daily minimum in January of 4.4ºC, and summers are warm rather than scorching, with a mean daily maximum in August of 28°C / 82°F. Barcelona is slightly more humid than is normal in Spain, though precipitation is low, and four or five rainy days a month is normal. Note that these will probably be thunderstorms in July and, especially, August.
